A group of parents and students from Memphis were in Nashville to fight municipal schools Tuesday.
They were armed with a petition signed by more than a thousand people, who feel the municipal school districts would have a negative impact on Memphis schools.
The group got some coaching from the grass-roots organization Stand for Children.
They oppose the Norris Bill that would allow special school districts in Shelby County municipalities.
"The reason I want to be here is me being a student education is a very big part of my life but not just my life everyone's life," said high school senior Jonathan Chaffen Senior. "I believe in standing up. I know this is my last year and even though with me coming out. I still came for the ones beneath me."
Senator Mark Norris of Collierville sponsors the bill.
The municipalities voted in favor of their own school districts. However, that is left up to a judge to decide.
