Action News 5's Andrew Douglas cohost for Memphis Training Camp for Dads on June 15

The 3rd Annual Memphis Training Camp for Dads is scheduled for June 15th from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Fogelman Executive Center on the University of Memphis campus. This event is free and open to the public. Free parking and child care are also included.

The event celebrates fatherhood and is designed for those who are interested in learning ways to be the best father possible. The morning includes workshops and sessions followed by the Hall of Fame luncheon where Mayor Wharton will present awards to individuals who have been great fathers, role models, and patriarchs in our community. Action News 5's Andrew Douglas and Hallejuah FM's Michael Adrian Davis are Co-hosting the Hall of Fame luncheon.

The 22nd annual Main Street Collierville Sunset on the Square Summer Concert Series kicks off on June 6th.

Every year during June and July, Collierville residents as well as people throughout the region have come to know that Thursday nights is the time when you drop what you're doing, grab your lawn chairs and a picnic basket and head for the Town Square in Downtown Collierville Historic District.

Main Street Collierville has planned and organized this event for more than 20 years and has offered them to the public free of charge with the support of community partners and the Town of Collierville.

New spray schedule for May

The Shelby County Health Department (SCDH) has received confirmation of mosquitoes infected with West Nile virus (WNV) within the areas of ZIP code 38115.  Mosquitoes carrying WNV have been previously found in ZIP codes 38018, 38104, 38109, 38116, 38122, 38127, 38133, 38125, 38017, and 38141.

Since April the SCHD Vector Control Program has treated areas by applying larvicides to standing bodies of water. As an additional precaution, the SCHD will also conduct truck mounted spraying of EPA approved insecticides weather permitting, in portions specific ZIP codes according to the following schedule:

Collierville Police Detective Receives Top Honor

Collierville Police Detective Receives Top Honor

We are giving a High 5 to Detective Jonathan Watts.

He has been named "Officer of the Year" from the Collierville Police Department and the Shelby County Optimist Club's Respect for Law Committee.

In August of 2005, Jonathan Watts began his career with the Collierville Police Department as a full time patrolman. He consistently received positive performance reports as well as the hometown hero award for being one of the initial responders that arrested a person who robbed a bank in a neighboring county.
