Schilling Farms Middle School is home to the 2011 Memphis-Shelby County Spelling Bee champion!
In his third appearance and final year of eligibility in the Scripps Memphis-Shelby County Spelling Bee, Collin McLeod, an 8th grader at Schilling Farms, beat out more than 150 spellers for victory.
He correctly spelled the word "minatory" to seal the win in the 7th round, earning him the opportunity to compete for national honors at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. in June.
This will be the first of two runs at a national trophy for Collin this summer. In November, he won the spelling competition at the Tennessee Junior Beta Club Convention and earned a spot to compete at the National Junior Beta Club Convention in Nashville in July.
