Photo Gallery | SLIDESHOW: Skiers, wakeboarders kick off 2013 on the Mighty Mississippi

Brrrrrr!  That was the phrase heard most often at the 36th annual Ski Freeze event held on the Mighty Mississippi on New Year’s Day.

Thirty-two people braved the frigid waters to raise money for The Dream Factory of Memphis, which makes dreams come true for children who are diagnosed with critical or chronic illnesses.

The event, which was hosted by the Collierville Ski Club, was successful in making 13-year-old Haylie K’s dream come true.

Haylie is diagnosed with Complex Dysautonomia, an illness that causes fainting spells and dizziness.  She was at the event Tuesday and became emotional as she thanked the crowd for their participation and the support she has received in the last year.

More than $9,000 was raised, which will not only help fund Haylie’s dream of a shopping spree, but it is enough to help grant other kids’ dreams as well.

In addition to the people who took hold of the ski rope, spectators showed up in droves to witness the freeze and make their own contributions to the cause.

The numbers prove that this event was a success for The Dream Factory, Collierville Ski Club, and everyone who was brave enough to participate and generous enough to donate.

And keep in mind… you have less than 365 days to warm up in preparation for next year’s Ski Freeze!
